A Royal Masquerade by Allison Tebo and….an interview with Burndee

Hello one and all! I am delighted to say that Allison Tebo has another book coming out! I fell in love with her world and characters in her first book The Reluctant Godfather if you haven’t read it, seriously go and get thy fingers on it at once…but before we get very far…I must tell you that I have had the chance to travel IN PERSON to AMBIA and interview our favorite Godfather, yes, indeed I did and here…are the results…

Allison:  Welcome to Ambia, Jessica!  I’m sorry I had to meet you here, but I’m sure you had no difficulty in finding The Magic Pumpkin Bakery!  This little shop is fast becoming one of the number one destinations of Ambia!

Jessica: I am so delighted to finally make it! I can assure you that this little shop is going to be my favorite stop in Ambia.

Allison:  Ella wants to improve Burndee’s public image. She convinced him to do this interview after she told him that the interview would help the bakery.  Burndee will put up with a lot for his beloved bakery.  Er, nothing personal, Jessica—Burndee’s just anti-social.  So . . . brace yourself!
Jessica: I am well braced.

Allison:  Shall we go in?

Jessica: Yes!

*Allison and Jessica stroll inside, past the eatery, and poke their heads into the back kitchen* (*ahem* Jessica might have sneaked in a few samples along the way)
*Burndee is mixing dough*
Allison:  Hi Burndee.  It’s time for the interview.  This is Jessica.  Are you ready?

Jessica: *can hardly believe her eyes and is so glad she wrote down the questions she wanted to ask him because now face to face with the legendary fey, she doesn’t think she could remember a single thing if she had not written it down beforehand*
Burndee:  I’m busy.
Allison:  I know, but we don’t mind.
*Burndee blinks, then glares*
Allison:  Go ahead, Jess.
Jessica:  What is your greatest accomplishment in life?
Burndee:  Baking a ten-foot cake for the royal wedding.  No bakery and no baker in Ambia has ever constructed a cake that tall before!  And with angel food cake, no less.  Do you have any idea how delicate angel food cake is?

Jessica: I am impressed. *scribbles down notes*
Allison: *whispering to Jess*  Though he’s very proud of that cake, Burndee’s too shy to say what he really means.   Burndee considers marrying Ella and helping her turn her life around to be his greatest accomplishment in life.

Jessica: *scribbles down what Allison has “translated” and whispers… I was wondering thank you!
Jessica:  If you could only bake one thing for the rest of your life what would it be?
Burndee:  What kind of question is that?
Allison: Burndee . . .
Burndee:  All right, all right.  If I was forced to choose—pointed frown at Allison—I would bake cakes for the rest of my life.  Any moron could tell you that cake is the pinnacle of epicurean perfection.

Jessica to herself: Yes they are indeed…those samples were divine.
Jessica:  Burndee what does your name mean in Fey? I, unfortunately, do not speak the language and don’t know what it means, would you be so kind as to enlighten us?
Burndee:  Fairy names don’t mean anything.  Sounds or word are combined to reflect our character or produce a connotation that matches our personalities.  Didn’t you do any research before visiting Ambia?
Allison:  Be nice, you!
Jessica: *sends Allison a glance of gratitude before moving on* Stranded on an island that limits your powers what three things would you take with you?
Burndee: I assume you’re joking.
Allison:  It’s just a question for fun, Burndee.
Burndee:  That’s like me asking you if you would like to imagine being stranded on an island without the use of your legs. That’s supposed to be funny?  You can joke about it because you’re not magical!
Allison:  Oh, be a sport.
Burndee:  Oh, fine!  I would take flour, sugar, and eggs.  There, are you happy?
Allison:  *to Jessica in a whisper*  He’d also take Ella and Colin and Cynthia.  I think we’d better hurry up with this interview.
Jessica:  We know that the word ‘neat’ is a very treasured word in your dictionary, do you have any other words in your vocabulary reserved for special occasions?
Burndee:  *stony stare*  No.
Jessica:  Would you…play two truths and a lie? If so what would they be and can my readers and I guess figure out your lie?
Burndee:  I think there’s something like that played here in Ambia, it just has a different name.  I always thought it was a very stupid game.
Allison:  Burndee!
Burndee:  *sniffs*  1.  I never use the flavor lime in my baking.  2.  I once wrapped a baby octopus around someone’s neck.  3.  I once sort of owned a cat.
Jessica:  I’m guessing one is the lie.
Burndee:  *mumbling*  That was the lie.

Allison:  Stop sulking Burndee.
Burndee:  Maybe we should do it again; I made it too obvious.  Most people would know I would never element a perfectly good flavor from my baking.
*Allison shakes head and Burndee huffs in response*

Jessica aside to Allison: I am dying to know the other stories though…but from the looks of him he won’t be prevailed to tell.

Jessica:  What is your best feature?
Burndee: *staring at Jessica and slowly sharpening knife*  My patience.
Jessica: *giggles into notebook*

Allison:  I apologize for him, Jessica.  Since he never will.
Burndee:  Hmph!
Allison:  I would say Burndee’s greatest feature is his good heart.  He grumps a lot, but he has a true and loyal heart that I think is beautiful.
*Burndee turns scarlet with mortification*
Burndee:  I don’t see what any of this has to do with helping The Magic Bakery’s public image—
Jessica:    What is your best feature, physically speaking?
Burndee:  *snapping* My cooking abilities.
Allison:  Well, I think it’s his hair. That tousled hair is adorable.
Burndee:  I BEG YOUR PARDON?
Allison:  Don’t you think so, Jess?

Jessica behind noteook: Yes….

Burndee:  *spluttering*
Allison:  Well, I think we’re done for today.  We’ll let you get back to work now.  Bye Burndee!
Burndee:  Come back here—!
*Allison and Jessica hurry out the door as Burndee yells after them and hustle down the sidewalk to hire a carriage*
Allison:  Sorry, Jessica.  He’s a bit of a monster, but I have to love him.  I don’t know about Burndee, but I had a blast with this interview!  I—ahem—do enjoy tormenting him.  Just a bit.  *smiles mischievously*
Jessica: Thank you so much Allison that was perfectly delightful and everything I was looking for in an interview with Burndee
Allison:  Thank you so much for having us, Jessica!  Ella wants me to give you a big hug for being patient with Burndee—and here’s another from me!
*HUGS* to you and to Ella! Thank you so much for this delightful passport into Ambia!

So, now that you’ve had the fun part of the interview! Now how to get your hands on a copy!

About the book!

Burndee can barely tolerate the mischievous Prince Colin, but the two of them are invariably thrown together in a way that keeps them at one another’s throats.

While attending a noblewoman’s wedding, Burndee and Colin’s private feud comes to a climax when Burndee loses his temper and does the unthinkable.  With Prince Colin unable to attend to his royal duties and Burndee bound by an inconvenient spell, can the two of them work together long enough to unsnarl the mysterious goings-on around them?

A madcap and magical retelling of The Goose Girl from a unique perspective.
